New York State Snowmobile Association (click here for NYSSA site)
The New York
Snowmobile Coordinating Group emerged in 1975 from a melting pot of diverse
groups with common goals. The name was changed to the New York State Snowmobile
Association
in
1996. NYSSA is a volunteer effort of snowmobilers and organizations striving to
improve the sport. The State of New York as well as many international sport and
industry associations recognize NYSSA as the voice of New York
snowmobilers.NYSSA was formed in 1975 as the New York State NYSSA works to
protect landowners, review and watchdog the NYS Trail Fund and is constantly
seeking additional Trail funding programs.
NYSSA continually works on behalf of its members to improve communications in every aspect of snowmobiling. NYSSA coordinates and provides leadership for New York State Snowmobile Clubs and Organizations in developing and implementing policies, strategies and action plans which foster the growth of safe snowmobiling.
NYSSA's Trail Watch Program
With the
approval and support of the New York State Office of Homeland Security and the
New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation we are
establishing an educational program which will provide thousands of eyes and
ears to inform
law enforcement about suspicious activity near sensitive
facilities.
New York has over 13,000 miles of snowmobile trails, many of which are on or near property that has vital facilities. Many of these areas are remote and therefore vulnerable to those who are our enemies. The Trail Watch program is intended to educate the thousands, who ride these trails on snowmobiles to be aware, know what to look for, how to react and how to report what they have seen.
This program will not involve the participants in law enforcement. In fact, it is imperative that individuals always avoid personal risk and never act in a confrontational manner. It`s purpose is to provide timely and reliable information to law enforcement by using the New York State Terrorism Tips Hotline: 1-866-SAFE-NYS.
